The article opens thus:
Ken Livingstone was this week accused of betraying those killed in the London bombings after appearing to offer excuses for similar attacks in Israel.
Now let's look at the evidence:
It really seems as though some people don't get the difference between 'justifying'(giving excuses) and 'explaining'. Or perhaps, they just don't want to see the difference.“Now I don’t think that justifies suicide bombing but if you have been under foreign occupation, denied the right to vote, denied the right to run your own affairs, often denied the right to work for three generations, I suspect that if that had happened here in England, we would have produced a lot of suicide bombers ourselves.”
...
The Mayor said he himself opposed suicide bombings but found Israel’s use of missiles, planes and tanks against civilians just as repellent. He subsequently insisted: “The proposal to ban anyone who sought to justify suicide bombings would equally have to apply to anyone who defends the Israeli army's actions. That would in fact mean refusing to talk to either side in the conflict.”
Ill explain:
RépondreSupprimerIf the Palestinians QUIT taping bombs to themselves, the Israelis wouldnt HAVE to use military force against them. The PALESTINIANS kill civilians by bombing them at bus stops. Neither side is innocent, but I support israel over Palestine ANYDAY.
Ken livingstone is a turd.
I'll explain it:
RépondreSupprimerPeriods when there are only the constant ongoing killings of Palestinians by the IDF and settlers are called "relative calm".
And when Palestinians do adopt only non-violent protest, their reward is "tear gas, rubber bullets, live bullets (including killings), night-time raids of homes".
Its bull.
RépondreSupprimerThey try to compare themselves to the Apartheid struggle. And I hate that.
THEY are nothing like the heroes of South Africa. The ANC (the liberation movement and current SA government) adopted violence, yes. BUT they targeted only government installations and NEVER bombed civilians. Or people.
MURDER is not an appropriate response by Palestine.

RépondreSupprimeradrian, who do you think is the most powerful? Israel or the Palestinians?
RépondreSupprimerNone of us here support killing civilians, be they Arabs or Jews.
If you do a bit of research, you'll find plenty of Israelis and Jews(I am one)who disagree with zionism and israeli violence. here's a link:

have a roam:they have plenty to say!
I'm a bit repetitive these days, but terror breeds terror.
I think none of us are using the right words. We say "the palestinians do this", the "israelis do that". However, Not all Israelis are terrorising Palestinians, and not all Palestinians are terrorising Israelis. The fact remains, that all Palestinians are second-class citizens in their own land. Also the jewish state of Israel is by definition an undemocratic state, just as the Islamic Republic of Iran is. The only true democratic solution is for a binational state(heck! a multinational state!)to replace Israel. Of course, this will take time, but I live in hope.
RépondreSupprimerAll I would need t counter your rebuttal is merely to state again this and this. I might add this and this as well.
RépondreSupprimerJEZ:
RépondreSupprimerThe Apartheid Government was one of the most ruthless governments in the world during Apartheid. Do you think it was any easier for the ANC to force the Apartheid Government into negotiations than it is for Palestine to do to Israel?
Quite simply, no. The problems are IDENTICAL, but their "means to an end" are not.
The Apartheid Government killed hundreds if not thousands of innocents during the periods of unrest (mostly 70's and 80's) yet the ANC never resorted to killing white civilians (who could quite easily have been seen as the enemy).
This is why I condemn the Palestinian militants for their suicide bombers. This is not to be condoned no matter what the circumstances. My sentiments are the same to ANY soldier that wishes to shoot civilians especially children.
No one here is defending suicide bombers - that's not going to happen. What we are supporting is non-violent protest by Palestinians.
RépondreSupprimerIncidentally, the ANC were considered terrorist by the Conservatives in Britain and by the U.S. government (a position I strongly disagree with).
Also, there was far less support for the Apartheid government than there is today for Israel. Which western government supports sanctions on Israel?
RépondreSupprimerAgain, as if it needs to be repeated: I am opposed to any form of terror.
But being opposed does not make you immune from straw man attacks from the resident right-wing ninny, Jez.
