Our aim is to build an inexpensive state - to do away with the waste of public money and corruption. As mayor of Warsaw, my brother has shown that public expenditure can be cut by several dozen percent.
Cut costs? Certainly. Make being mayor a labour of love. To be mayor, you may not drawn any income of anykind whatsoever during the entire time you serve in office plus an additional 3years after you leave office. To be compensated, you receive room and board, clothes, food plus pocket money equivalent to 1/4 of the minimum wage. That would cut costs and lower corruption.
Of course the best thing to do would be forget about costs and look at quality of governance. In that case, one would set up a participatory governing system.
The thing is to get a block of friends and get yourselves voted into office then legislate these kinds of changes when you get in, rather like in Porto Allegre. Fun, fun, fun!
