Many may wonder how our consumerism here can affect the lives of others. Here's an example:
The villagers sell the wood to traders in a practice that environmentalists say is a major cause of deadly landslides in Indonesia, by removing natural barriers to heavy rain run-off.We react when natural disasters take place, generously (though not always enough), yet we fail to see how changing our everyday habits could help prevent such disasters in the first place.
Here is one way.
You know, if you mention to some seemingly normal people that their consumerism could be detrimental to the environment, they will suddenly act like spoiled, misbehaving children.
RépondreSupprimerit's not so much detrimental to the environment I was aiming at, as detrimental to human lives, since that usually provokes more passion in people.
